HEIMANN - UCI Hardness Tester
Brand: HEIMANN
Model: SD-H3

Product Introduction:
For determination of copper respectively chrome hardness of rotogravure weight have the advantage that they are supposed to be non-destructive as cylinders -simple – fast – accurate.

Hardness tests in Vickers range of light the lasting surface indentation is microscopically small.
Measuring is effected by Vickers penetration procedure by electro acoustic evaluation of the indentation (UCI process).

Different instrument adjustments (calibration values, penetration times, tolerance thresholds) for various metals can be stored in the device (e. g. copper, chrome, steel, zinc). A transfer to PC via USB
interface for long-term storing is possible on a very easy way.

The measuring values and the current average value are shown simultaneously and colored (green = good; red = poor) on the display in Vickers hardness HV. Furthermore, the whole measurement-series (statistic results, single measurement values) can be displayed at a glance.

The Hardness Tester includes the following parts:
• Indicating unit with measuring and control electronics with rechargeable accumulator
• Swivelling housing holder and stable unit stand with tooth rack guide
• Measuring probe with connection cable
• Protection sleeve for the measuring probe
• Charger
• Hardness comparison plate with certificate
• Operation manual
• Communication software

Q&A:

Q :Minimum thickness of the layer coating that allow for the hardness measurement ?

A:

It depends on your measuring force.
Based on a common heuristic, it's need approximately ten times coating thickness (in micron) compared to measuring force (Newton).

In case we measure with 3 Newton-probe.That means the coating should at least have 30 micron.

For copper normally have 60 and more micron so it is sufficient.

In case of chromium layer that usually only have 5-10 micron. So there is a deviation between true value and measured value
(softer copper layer under the chromium affects the measured hardness value. It is lower than true value). It is hard to generally estimate how big this effect is.
